Flat Roof Mounting Issues

• The first picture shows a commonly used construction component that is often used instead of 2x6 boards to frame up the flat roof. These components are called TGIs in the construction trade. As you can see in the photo, over half of the threads of the bolt are not in solid wood. This is not an approved mount and you do not want us to mount your equipment in this “good enough for now” manner. When our drill bit discovers
one of these TGIs, we have to carefully patch the hole and proceed to install
a non penetrating roof mount or a pole in the ground.
• In the second photo we show an example of a building material that we encounter very rarely but is worth noting. The roof construction uses two sheets of plywood with a foam core. We can not locate the rafters with this type of construction and the foam core does not give us enough threads in solid wood like we need. We need to patch the hole and use an alternate mounting option.
