Arguments Against Satellite
Equipment Price and/or Installation
Price Is Too Expensive
The WildBlue equipment is fairly complicated and
does cost a lot, but… It’s a relatively good
value. At $479, WildBlue is over $120 less
upfront than competitive services and $10 less
per month. Yes, it’s a fair amount of money but
you’ll get significantly greater speeds, up to
30 times faster than your current dial up
service.
Having high speed satellite, in
comparison to dial up for your office increases
productivity. You and your employees can
get more done, faster, on high speed.
Compared to DSL or Cable - Yes, it is more money than a cable
modem/DSL, but please understand that we have a
very expensive satellite in the sky and the
equipment is more costly. So we have to charge a
little more. It is however, the lowest cost
choice for you if DSL &.Cable are not
available in your area.
Monthly Price is Too Much
It’s a relatively good value. At only $49.95 a
month, WildBlue is over $10 less per month than
competitive services. WB is over 10x faster than
your current dial up service. At only $49.95 per
month, in many cases WildBlue service is less
than a second phone line and ISP dial-up
service.
This Isn’t Fast Enough Downstream
At up to 512 kbps, this is much faster than your
dial-up service. You can get streaming video,
download music files, and have quick, always-on
service. No dialing in or delays. Some services
advertise higher speeds but the reality is that
the Internet itself affects Internet access in
the same way, so you’ll find 512 kbps is plenty
fast.
Upstream. At up to 256 kbps, WildBlue’s
upstream speed is equal to or very close to
those speeds offered by cable modem and DSL
users who have been very pleased with that
service.
I Don’t Want An Ugly Dish On My Roof
The WildBlue mini dish is only 26” x 28”. You’ve
seen millions of people with similar satellite
TV dishes on their roof…they are a pretty common
site. Our installer will work with you to
position the mini dish so it’s out of sight.
Remember you can install WildBlue on your roof,
on an exterior wall or in the ground on a pole
mount. Take a look at some of example pictures
to see how it will look.

I Don’t Really Need Higher Speed
Internet
Over 40 million U.S. broadband users love their
high-speed Internet access. It’s “always on” so
you don’t have to dial in, and you can quickly
get access to the high-speed Internet. There is
so much more you can do with a high-speed
connection. Fast and easy downloads and email.
Now you can receive and send video, music,
photos, and just plain surf at lightning fast
speeds. People who switch from dial-up to high
speed find themselves using the internet more
often, and learning more from it.
It doesn’t work with VPNs
Certain types of VPN clients that are SSL based
work better with the WildBlue Service. WildBlue
does not recommend any SSL based VPN clients and
users should check with the software
manufacturer to identify the type of VPN client.
IPSEC based VPN solutions do not work with the
WildBlue Service.
Your Fair Access Policy Will Squeeze
Me Down Too Much
WildBlue does use a Fair Access Policy to ensure
that everyone has equal access to the WildBlue
service. WildBlue doesn’t want a handful of
users to try to grab so much bandwidth that it
hurts the experience of other users. Still, it
should only affect one percent of users that
aggressively abuse the WildBlue system…I am sure
you’ll find WildBlue is very reasonable, and
better than the competition.
